Holiday pictures, important documents - for instance degree dissertations or e-mails - just imagine yourself losing all such data, maybe in consequence of a hard disk failure. A study by Symantec has shown that some 48 % of participants had already suffered such a data loss. More than half of these were unable to recover their data. So how can you protect yourself against data loss?
The answer is BACK UP. However, the study says that this is not really done on a regular and serious basis. For instance, 25 % of participants did not back up their data at all, a very risky attitude considering all the hazards of the IT sector today.
In addition, it is relatively easy to protect your personal data. You will find some options on how to do this under the first item, "protect", of our "5 step program for your IT security."
Regular back-ups of your data can look rather laborious. However, this is quite a small price to pay when compared to the loss of your precious photo memories or the cost involved in data recovery, to name just some examples. Make time to back-up your data - you never know just when data loss may affect you as well.
